The COPE program uses a culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed curriculum that includes comprehensive perinatal workforce training: doula, childbirth educator, and lactation. Doulas are not medical providers or provide clinical care in any setting. Medical training or background is not relevant or required to become a Certified Doula. This training increases cultural competency, humility, and sensitivity for working with a racially and ethnically intentionally disadvantaged population in perinatal care. The training focuses on increasing the Black & BIPOC Certified Perinatal Doula workforce and expanding doulas for RI perinatal community.
